Stephanie's fertility journey

After working with a specialty in acupuncture and fertility support for 10 years,  I found myself in the ironic situation of embarking on my own fertility journey.   Like most women who have always wanted children but yet find themselves unable to become pregnant, my heart hurt tremendously.

I was 35 years old and I knew after 6 months of trying to conceive naturally that further investigation was needed.  I was diagnosed with endometriosis when I was 18 years old so I had always wondered if I would have difficulty concieving, but I was not expecting my bloodwork and ultrasounds to show that I had a poor ovarian reserve. 

Over the course of two years I have "taken all my own medicine" with living a fertility friendly lifestyle, regular acupuncture treatments, daily supplements and Chinese herbs.  I have also had the incredible support of Dr.Hudson and the entire VFC team with assisted techniques as well......surgery, medications, and two IVF cycles.

My husband and I feel so very blessed to be expecting our first child on July 3, 2012.

I feel sensitive in knowing that for some of my patients, it will be too hard to continue treatments with me through the remaining weeks of my pregnancy.  I want you to know that I will understand completely if you choose to see another practitioner during this time.  You would be in excellent hands seeing my colleague, Julia  Dascalescu, should you choose to continue your care at our centre.

Everyone moves through their fertility journey differently and with different outcomes.  From observing others and then experiencing my own journey over the past 12 years, I do know that it affects you and changes you in ways you could have never imagined.

NOTE - I will be taking a 3month maternity leave as of June 15.  During this time, Celina Lyons will be joining our centre to help Julia with covering my leave.  Both are very skilled practitioners and lovely women; I have every confidence that patients will be well taken care of and in excellent hands.
