Anneke Hylkema, RMT

Anneke Hylkema is a Registered Massage Therapist in Victoria, BC and a graduate of the West Coast College of Massage Therapy. Her approach is anatomy-informed and intuitively guided, combining clinical reasoning with careful attention to how each patient responds to treatment. Anneke’s treatments are grounded in Swedish massage techniques, using a combination of flowing, relaxation-focused work and firmer therapeutic pressure. She often incorporates gentle active and passive movements throughout treatment, adapting pressure, pacing, and technique based on how each patient responds. Her continuing education includes TMJ treatment, pregnancy massage, and approaches to managing low back pain. Anneke believes that effective care begins with a strong therapeutic relationship. She values open communication and collaboration, and sees relaxation and rest as important parts of the healing process. Her goal is to create treatments that are both therapeutic and enjoyable, helping patients settle things down before gradually building toward comfortable movement and function. Outside the clinic, Anneke has a genuine appreciation for movement and stays active through Pilates, weight training, and long walks with her golden retriever. She also enjoys cross-stitching and knitting—although her massage techniques are considerably more reliable than her knitting.

“I have found massage to be very helpful for muscle pain and tension associated with frozen shoulder and related back and neck spasm. Massage therapy relieves the tightness and encourages deep relaxation both physically and mentally. It has been a great addition to my treatment plan.”
