In-vitro Fertilization (IVF) / Inter Uterine Insemination (IUI)

If you are planning to or currently are using Assisted Reproductive Techniques like IUI, clomid, super ovulation, IVF, or ICSI, integrating fertility acupuncture and natural fertility support may improve your chances of success. Since egg and sperm development takes at least 90 to 100 days, the three months before your cycle is an important time. Implementing a good diet, proper self-care and preconception acupuncture treatments will help to optimize your reproductive health.

Research has shown that acupuncture may help improve the success rate of IVF/ICSI by:

  • Improving blood flow to the ovaries and uterus
  • Improving response to hormonal stimulation
  • Alleviating possible side effects of fertility medications
  • Improving the thickness and profusion of blood to the uterine lining
  • Calming the uterus to help prepare for and support implantation
  • Reducing stress and promoting relaxation
Your Treatment Plan

In the month before your IVF/ICSI cycle, we follow an evidence-based acupuncture protocol to prepare a woman’s body for embryo transfer. Treatments are scheduled 2x/week during the four weeks prior to egg retrieval

For men with impaired sperm parameters, we recommend bi-weekly acupuncture treatments during the three months prior to an IVF/ICSI cycle and then scheduling visits 2x/week for the two weeks prior to your partner’s egg retrieval.

Acupuncture on the day of embryo transfer has been clinically proven to improve the pregnancy rates in IVF patients. Our practitioners are available to provide this service at the Victoria Fertility Centre as requested.

Approximately 5 to 7 days after transfer, a follow-up acupuncture session will help support implantation and aid in relaxation as you wait for your blood work day.

Pregnancy

Our practitioners are trained and experienced in treating pregnancy related conditions and can continue to be of support during the first trimester as well as throughout your pregnancy.
