Pelvic Health Physiotherapy
Pelvic health physiotherapy involves the assessment and rehabilitation of your pelvic floor muscles. The pelvic floor is a group of muscles inside the pelvis that is often overlooked, yet is essential for core stability, organ support, bowel and bladder control, and sexual function.
Pelvic health physiotherapy is for all genders and addresses a variety of symptoms and health conditions, including:
- urinary and fecal leakage
- overactive bladder
- constipation
- prenatal and postpartum care
- menopause
- low back or hip pain
- pelvis or tailbone pain
- pelvic organ prolapse
- painful intercourse
- sexual dysfunction
- abdominal separation
- post abdominal or pelvic surgery
- gender-affirming surgery
Your pelvic health physiotherapist has completed special training and is qualified to do internal assessments of your pelvic floor to determine the strength, endurance, and coordination of your muscles. A pelvic health treatment session may include a combination of education and lifestyle modification strategies, guidance with calming your nervous system, exercise prescription, manual therapy, and dry needling.
At the Elements of Health Centre, we want to ensure that our clients feel safe and comfortable during their pelvic health physiotherapy session. We understand that you might not feel ready to do an internal assessment, and that is okay. We will work at whatever pace feels right to you. We encourage you to come in for a session and start the conversation about your pelvic health experience.
