Incontinence
Incontinence is uncontrolled leaking of urine or feces. It can occur when the pelvic floor muscles are lengthened and weak, or when the pelvic floor muscles are shortened and tight. Incontinence can happen to any person at any age. It can have a negative impact on your life and prevent you from participating in activities that you enjoy.
There are many types of incontinence, including:
- Stress incontinence
- Urge incontinence
- Mixed incontinence
- Functional incontinence
- Overflow incontinence
Treatment: A person should not accept the myth that leakage is a normal part of aging. Although incontinence is common, it is not normal. Physiotherapy treatment includes lifestyle changes, bladder retraining, and exercises to strengthen muscles, coordinate muscle activation, and calm the nervous system.
