Endometriosis is a common condition affecting 10%–15% of women between the ages of 24 and 40. It is caused by the endometrial tissue, which normally lines the uterus, growing outside the uterus. Endometriosis may contribute to the following symptoms:
- Pain during menses
- Pain with intercourse
The common treatment approach is to stop pain, regulate bleeding. suppress the growth of lesions and, if needed, remove inflammatory tissue. This can include common pain suppressing & anti-inflammatory medications, estrogen suppressing medications, and surgery.
Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) can help to reduce pain, mitigate inflammation and regulate bleeding. This serves as a great option for women who are sensitive to pain relieving medications or hormone therapy, as well as women who are trying to conceive. TCM can support at any stage of treatment, both as a complement to medications, while you prepare/recovery from surgery and in some cases, as an alternative to other common treatments.
Our practitioners will develop a personalized treatment program with you that may include:
- Anti-inflammatory diet therapy
- Chinese herbs and supplements
